A vegetable cannery operating in Eastern NC for over 40 years sought to expand its operations. Their existing wastewater treatment and disposal system needed a full upgrade, and new disposal fields had to be properly sited before any expansion could move forward.
We conducted an extensive multi-phase soil and groundwater investigation to confirm technical feasibility and cost-effectiveness. The expansion succeeded — methane is now captured at the treatment plant and converted to on-site electricity. Odor and nutrient loading were also significantly reduced, extending the overall life expectancy of the facility.
A specialty insurance company was underwriting high-risk policies for commercial, industrial, and former manufacturing sites across the US — many of which had been reclaimed as Brownfields and undergone significant soil and groundwater remediation.
We provided ongoing technical support by reviewing initial and follow-up site assessment reports, remediation plans, and post-cleanup documentation to verify that cleanup goals were met before each site was insured.
The new NC Aquarium complex under construction at the former Jennette's Pier site in Nags Head, NC required a LEED-certified heating and cooling solution — one that met strict international standards for energy savings, water efficiency, CO₂ reduction, and resource stewardship.
We oversaw the installation of a 250-foot geothermal test well and performed pump testing to determine the expected BTU output and calculate the total number of wells required to heat and cool the new aquarium structure.
A chicken processing facility in Eastern NC had operated its spray irrigation disposal system for over 25 years before new state regulations mandated additional treatment upgrades and storage improvements. The client had received citations for over-applying treated wastewater and exceeding NCAC 2L groundwater standards.
We performed a comprehensive soil and groundwater investigation, expanded the compliance boundary, implemented water conservation practices plant-wide, upgraded the wastewater treatment facility, and now provide ongoing groundwater sampling and semi-annual/annual reporting for all 17 spray fields.
After more than 20 years, the Town of Fremont had transferred its wastewater to a larger municipality to reduce costs — but later determined that treating and disposing of its own wastewater would be more economical. The original facility permit had lapsed and required full upgrades and re-certification.
We performed an extensive soil and groundwater investigation confirming technical and financial feasibility. The project successfully re-permitted the original spray fields and reduced nutrient loading — extending field life expectancy and delivering meaningful long-term cost savings for the municipality.
