New regulations required additional treatment and waste water storage improvements

Client:

Chicken processing facility

Project Problem

The client has operated a spray irrigation disposal facility in Eastern NC for over twenty five years before new regulations required additional treatment and waste water storage improvements at the main plant. Client had been sited for over applying treated waste water and exceeding NCAC 2L Ground Water Standards.

Solution

An extensive soil and ground water investigation was performed to determine if naturally occurring compounds were the cause of the 2L violations and to ensure that all contaminants of concern were staying on client’s property. Compliance boundary was increased, water saving practices were put into effect in the plant and upgrades were performed on the waste water treatment facility. We provide ground water sampling and semi-annual and annual reporting to comply with the Non-discharge permit, adjusted hydraulic and nutrient loading on each of the 17 spray fields thus ensuring compliance with the permit.
